Distributed Sequential Detection for Gaussian Binary Hypothesis Testing
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper studies the problem of sequential Gaussian binary hypothesis testing in a distributed multi-agent network. A sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) type algorithm in a distributed framework of the consensus+innovations form is proposed, in which the agents update their decision statistics by simultaneously processing latest observations (innovations) sensed sequentially over time and information obtained from neighboring agents (consensus). For each pre-specified set of type I and type II error probabilities, local decision parameters are derived which ensure that the algorithm achieves the desired error performance and terminates in finite time almost surely (a.s.) at each network agent. Large deviation exponents for the tail probabilities of the agent stopping time distributions are obtained and it is shown that asymptotically (in the number of agents or in the high signal-to-noise-ratio regime) these exponents associated with the distributed algorithm approach that of the optimal centralized detector. The expected stopping time for the proposed algorithm at each network agent is evaluated and characterized in terms of network connectivity. Finally, simulation studies are presented which illustrate and verify the analytical findings.

Robust Sequential Detection in Distributed Sensor Networks
We consider the problem of sequential binary hypothesis testing with a distributed sensor network in a nonGaussian noise environment. To this end, we present a general formulation of the Consensus + Innovations Sequential Probability Ratio Test (CISPRT). Furthermore, we introduce two different concepts for robustifying the CISPRT and propose four different algorithms, namely, the Least-Favorabl...
متن کاملAggregation and influence in teams of imperfect decision makers
Bayesian hypothesis testing inevitably requires prior probabilities of hypotheses. Motivated by human decision makers, this thesis studies how binary decision making is performed when the decision-making agents use imperfect prior probabilities. Three detection models with multiple agents are investigated: distributed detection with symmetric fusion, sequential detection with social learning, a...
متن کاملDistributed Mean-Field Estimation and Detection in Correlated Gaussian Random Fields Using Sensor Networks
We propose distributed methods for estimating and detecting the mean of a correlated Gaussian random field observed by a sensor network. The random-field correlations are assumed to follow a conditional autoregressive (CAR) model. First, a distributed maximum likelihood (ML) estimator of the mean field is derived. We then develop batch and sequential detectors for testing the hypothesis that th...
متن کاملHypothesis Testing for High-dimensional Sparse Binary Regression.
In this paper, we study the detection boundary for minimax hypothesis testing in the context of high-dimensional, sparse binary regression models. Motivated by genetic sequencing association studies for rare variant effects, we investigate the complexity of the hypothesis testing problem when the design matrix is sparse. We observe a new phenomenon in the behavior of detection boundary which do...
متن کاملDistributed sequential algorithms for regional source localization
We study the problem of source localization as a multiple hypothesis testing, where each hypothesis corresponds to the event that the source belongs to a particular region. We use sequential hypothesis tests based on posterior computations to solve for the correct hypothesis. Measurements corrupted with noise are used to calculate conditional posteriors. We prove that the regional localization ...
